Khushboo Bharti is an academician, researcher, artist and writer, originally from the city of Jaipur but currently working in the city of Ahmedabad, India. Her project is based in the remote village of Panthwari- Nagtiba as part of an organisation called 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘗𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦, that works with the village community to generate livelihood options through farm products in efforts to educate the village girls who cannot always go to schools.
In Uttarakhand, migration from rural hills to urban centres is a long-standing socio-economic issue. As villages work only as communities, migration impacts various aspects of daily lives of women. This understanding of the interdependence of the village community is reflected in the use of Kharcha, a craft which was created for the regular consumption of the villagers in the form of floor spreads for people to sit and commune. As the direct result of migration this craft has languished with only a handful of village elders or master craft people retaining its knowledge.
