AFIELD at Dhaka Art Summit

Join us to celebrate the sixth edition of Dhaka Art Summit 2023! ⁠

This year’s theme is বন্যা/Bonna, meaning both “flood” & a common name for girls in Bangladesh. It examines the multiplicity of meanings around weather and water through the lens of Bangladeshis, as both life givers – bringing regeneration and renewal – and takers. Within the context of DAS, Bonna has become a concept to challenge binaries – between necessity & excess, regeneration & disaster, adult & child, male & female. ⁠

Purposeful Goods

⁠AFIELD is in excellent company at Purposeful Goods, curated by artist & cultural organiser, Teresa Albor, an exhibition of socially engaged practices taking on the form of businesses and organisational structures using enterprise as a means for transformation in society. 

Panel Discussion : Socially Engaged Practice

On February 5 at 12.30pm, join curator and AFIELD Advisor Grégory Castéra for a panel discussion between artists, architects, and cultural practitioners who have initiated social projects catalyzing change and empowering communities in long-term and tangible ways, working beyond their studio for the benefit of communities around the world. 

Panelists include AFIELD Fellow Shawon Akand, and Peer Dharmendra Prasad, along with Ghazaleh Avarzamani, Rizvi Hassan, Salma Jamal Moushum.

⁠Established in 2012 by the Samdani Art Foundation, as a celebration of 200 local art & artisans in Bangladesh. In successive editions under director and AFIELD Advisor Diana Campbell, it has invited hundreds of creatives from across South Asia & the world to imagine & dialogue with the local Bangladeshi art scene. ⁠

This event is a free and ticketless artistic platform at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
